Welcome to the world baby Sonoma

This mommy-to-be called me because she saw the newborn pictures that I had done for another client.  It was the baby’s proud grandparents that were showing off my images!  Such a fun way to get a referral!  And we met just in time because Sonoma arrived EARLY!

Mom and Dad are so relaxed.  We had a wonderful morning, and this sweet little girl barely made a peep the entire time.  Here’s a little peek for you!

I fell in love with this little bunny blanket and bunny hat that Mom brought to the session.  So adorable!

Monday Love / A Session Share

A Quote: A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools. - Spanish Proverb

The fall season is in full swing and I’m a little behind these days.  Although I’m VERY busy with work, I have also been busy with life.  We had a much needed family vacation followed by a weekend full of enlightenment (more on that later) — and now it’s back to the real world.

So instead of the traditional Monday Love blog post, it’s a session share for one of my long-time clients who just had their second baby boy.  It’s such a special time, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.  Kristin, George, and Grayson are always so fun to be around.  I’ve always felt like they are old friends – even from the first time we met.  Baby brother Brayden was a sweetheart too, and I can’t wait to watch him grow up.  Plus, it’s good to know that between any sessions that I do, George is doing some fabulous photography work himself to catch all of the little details of daily life.  ;)

Without further ado, welcome to the world Brayden!

I felt so bad because we were not able to get a sibling shot during our session.  Grayson was such a good sport at the studio, playing and entertaining himself the whole time (with a little help from grandma of course).  But he just wasn’t in the mood to do the picture “thing” with Brayden.  I know mom was sad about it – but I promised her we got lots of great shots otherwise.   Even great shots of Grayson!  He’s such a cutie!

This one was a new version of the same image we did with Grayson as a newborn.:)

A house full of girls!

I have been photographing this family since miss Ava was about nine months old.  Then we added miss Chloe, and now miss Sophia.  I really adore spending time with Mom and the girls, they are all so sweet – and beautiful too!  :)   I don’t know how mom does it, but she always seems to have the energy for her girls, and a smile on her face to boot!  We are planning a vintage garden tea party session for the spring….. can’t WAIT!!

And now, introducing miss Sophia.  (I should mention that Mom really loves bows, so I tried to make sure we had a bow in most of the pictures.)

And because I have a sense of humor, I thought everyone might appreciate this “outtake” from our attempt at a sibling shot!  Don’t worry, no babies were harmed during the capture of this image.  ;)

And then this.  Awwwww, happy!

Darling baby boy

I was so excited to meet this family.  With Miss E being almost two years old and Mr. W just being born,  it was a fun morning that included everyone, even Grandma and Grandpa (code name Ambient Grandpa because he’s so good at putting babies to sleep!).   Our little man slept so nicely, and he let us get a nice variety of images – even my most popular “pose” that mom wanted to have (the first picture below).   We were already talking about taking pictures of the kids outside in the future…… ahhhh, how time flies right?

But for now, he sleeps!  Meet the little prince….

So excited to capture this sweet shot.  Mom said this was the first time big sis had given her baby brother a kiss.  Awwwwww!

Monday Love | Learning

Another edition of Monday Love….

A quote: Learn as much as you can while you are young, since life becomes too busy later. -Dana Stewart Scott

Something personal: It has been quite a summer!  And although the heat persists, my kids will be starting school in exactly one week.  Kylie in Kindergarten and Jake at pre-school.  It’s hard for me to believe, and yet I think I am ready for the transition.  The quote above made me giggle, but it also brings to life the truth that I realize on a daily basis: Time just keeps moving faster and faster.  I remember being a kid, and being bored.  When was the last time you were actually BORED?  I truly can’t remember.  There are never a lack of things that need to be done, or things that I acually WANT to do, only a lack of time to do them.  And so, I am so incredibly appreciative for the four days I spent last week at the NAPCP Retreat in Vail (National Association of Professional Child Photographers).  Having the time to grow my heart, my mind, my friendships and my love for what I do — it’s a wonderful gift.

Here are a few of my images from the amazing workshop of Kelly Ryden and Tracy Raver.  Spending 4 hours with these two newborn-posing-superstars was AWESOME!  :)  We watched as they lulled these sweet babies into a deep sleep and molded them into cozy poses.  Kelly and Tracy shared some of their secrets with us, and I know it will help me with my own newborn posing and shooting skills.

Something I love: Have you heard of Pinterest?  It’s a bit ironic since I’m talking about my total lack of time, and then in the same breath saying how much I love Pinterest, which also takes time.  But for me, Pinterest has enabled me to get rid of some clutter.  When I see something that I love, like a recipe in a magazine, or a picture of a beautiful room (Pottery Barn anyone??), I usually fold down the corner of the page and keep the magazine in a big pile in my house, or tear out the page and add it to my folder full of inspiration.  The problem is, I rarely get to go back to these “finds” and when I do want to go back, I can’t find what I was looking for anyway.  Enter Pinterest!!  Now, when I see something I love, I pull up the picture on my computer and “pin it” to one of my boards on Pinterest.  Now the pictures and the links are all in one place and I can find them easily.  PLUS, you can browse other people’s pin boards and get inspired by all of their amazing ideas as well!  Needless to say, there is a big pile of magazines in my recycle bin now.

Here are my pin board categories so far:

  • I love it
  • For the home
  • Organize
  • Studio Inspiration
  • Yummy

Here’s one of the things I pinned to my “I love it” board.  Hopefully Jeff will look here when he’s doing his Christmas shopping!  :)

It’s great to be back!  :)
