Monday love

Another edition of Monday Love…

A Quote: There is no cure for laziness but a large family helps.  ~Herbert Prochnov

Something personal: This quote made me laugh out loud.  I was just saying to Jeff on our way home from brunch (hoping for a little quiet time before our next family outing), that it would be nice to just sit on the couch and read a magazine or a book for a little while.  Instead, while the kids were napping, I sat at my computer and played around with a few Easter pictures I had just taken.  I suppose it was my choice, but I find it harder and harder to “choose” to relax.  It just seems like there is always something more pressing that needs to get taken care of — laundry anyone??

So, here are a few Easter pictures for you.  We stayed up too late watching TV on Saturday night, so I put Jake & Kylie’s Easter baskets out around midnight and snapped a quick pic.  I got these adorable “gardening” baskets at Michaels a few weeks ago.  They came with a rake, shovel and pick.  Then I filled them with some random goodies (Jeff really hates *ahem*, I mean LOVES the recorders).

Apparently the treasure in this little egg is ASTOUNDING!

Daddy getting a little love from the Jakester after brunch.

Oh my gosh – not sure what it is about this picture, but I’m so in love with it.  I want to freeze them just like that and give them giant hugs and kisses.  XOXOXO

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!

A cool shopping find: I haven’t posted any cool shopping stuff recently.  Mostly because I haven’t had a chance to do any shopping, but I did find a couple cute things in the Pottery Barn Kids Catalog last week.

Decorative Pendants from Pottery Barn Kids.  I never get tired of looking through their catalogs, but I’ve never seen these before.  And priced at $24-$29, such a bargain – and a unique idea!  This picture is from the website, but in the catalog they show them hanging over a crib – so cute!

Beaba Stackable Snack Containers from Pottery Barn Kids.  This looks really cool to me because Jake refuses to eat just about everything you can get in a restaurant (chicken, sandwiches, pasta, cheese, etc).  But he WILL eat cut-up finger foods (cucumbers, peppers, apples, carrots, cantaloupe).  I despise having a million little ziploc bags, and I don’t want 5 containers in my bag, so this seems like a nice alternative.  Plus, it could sub for a toy too right?

The Bento Box and Chip & Dip Container from PB Kids.  I know everyone has probably already seen these, but I’m planning to order them both ASAP!  Kylie loves to have a “lunchable” at school and I will occasionally oblige her.  But, I can’t help but think — I mean KNOW — that I can do a much healthier (not to mention cheaper) version of my own “lunchable” — and these will help!  Oh, and I’ll definitely put some julienne vegetable sprigs on her sandwich, and cut up her apple like a flower because I have absolutely nothing better to do with my time in the morning.  *sigh*

The Chip & Dip Containers are on special right now, only $8!  Loving the built-in “dip” section with a lid.  I was just thinking this would be great for babies too.  Just put some baby food in the middle and cut-up finger food on the outside.

Aren’t the pictures great?!  I love that Pottery Barn invests so much time and money into their marketing and photography.  It really makes me want to BUY EVERYTHING!!!  :)

Something special for moms: In honor of all the moms out there I wanted to have some Mommy Mini Sessions.  It seems ALL too often that we are the ones behind the camera and never the ones snuggling with our kiddos in the pictures.  I’m planning a fun day for moms to come for a quick session with the kids.  We will have snacks and props – but mostly it will just be about some cute cuddles, hugs, kisses and smiles with mom.   The date will be Saturday, May 21st and the location is TBD.  The best part is, you can cover all of your bases because I’m offering custom designed mini albums to give Dad for Father’s Day as well!   Contact me ASAP to hold your spot (they are VERY limited).

Some additional details:

  • Payment is due at time of booking and will be non-refundable.
  • Custom designed Father’s Day books will include notes, quotes, and other details from the children and/or mom.  Approximately 7-8 images will be included from the session as well.
  • I will shoot the images based on the type of session chosen (ie: different images might be needed for the book, which will be discussed in advance).
  • Prints are not included with these packages (except as noted above), but may be purchased separately.

Monday love……. on Tuesday….

A Quote: Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. ~Henry Ford

Something Personal: I know, it’s Tuesday.  Where was the Monday Love?  Well, in the culmination of two CRAZY weeks, I decided to sit with my husband and catch up on some American Idol and Parenthood instead of working.  And it was so nice.  :)  Jeff has been traveling and we have had family in town, so the two of us have barely been able to have a complete conversation recently.  Not that sitting in front of the TV is a conversation, but we do enjoy watching our favorite shows once in a while.  I think we are only behind by about 6 or 7 episodes of American Idol now, and I haven’t watched Desperate Housewives in months.

So, the quote about failure is referring to the horrible week I had with my eating choices.  The food won.  I ate whatever suited me, didn’t track anything, felt like crap, and gained a couple pounds.  I think it’s always important to figure out what DOESN’T work, in addition to what DOES work.  So, a new week begins, and I’m making much better choices all around.  I made a wonderful dinner last night – Italian Turkey Sausage and Pepper Pasta (I forgot to take a picture though) and tonight we are having this recipe again – Shrimp, tomato and zucchini over Brown Rice (instead of pasta this time).  I added the mushrooms because I LOVE mushrooms – and I get to eat all of Jeff’s mushrooms too!   Yummy!

Shop, Sip & Savor: Did you save the date for our event at the Shoppe of Vinings on Tuesday, April 19th, 6-8pm?  It is going to be so much fun!  We have great reps coming to help us shop for new SwitchFlops, Vera Bradley bags, John Madeiros jewelry, Troll Beads — and more!  The Shoppe is donating 20% of total sales to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America on behalf of the James Gang for the annual walk on May 15th.  You can visit our page for more details: The James Gang Team Page. We would love to have you join us for the event on the 19th or the walk on the 15th – or BOTH!   This is our 5th year fundraising and attending the walk.  Here’s a picture of the “gang” from 2009.  Unfortunately, we don’t have a picture from last year because our kids were really sick and we spent most of the day at Children’s Urgent Care.  :(

Happy Monday TUESDAY!!!

Another edition of Monday Love…

A Quote: “Try it, you’ll like it.”  Kylie James

Something Personal: I’m sure a million other people have said the same quote, but this was straight from Kylie’s mouth on Sunday morning when Jake was holding a chocolate chip pancake with a suspicious eye.  We try not to give him chocolate (allergy issues), but it was the only pancake left so – oh well.  He lived.  The quote made me laugh, it’s so Kylie (and mommy).  She is always trying to mother Jake, soothe him, play with him, hold his hand, help him.  And he consistently shuns her – screaming for mommy most of the time.  I should mention that he also shuns Jeff (to his constant annoyance) and wants me to do everything.  We both know it’s a stage, but it’s still hard.  This afternoon it was just me and Jake, which is very, very rare.  He was calm and sweet, and we had lots of conversations and cuddles.  The realization became so clear that our children are constantly competing for our attention.  Constantly.  In fact, Jeff and I can hardly hold a conversation over the roar of our children on a daily basis.  I have just assumed it was Jake, because he’s two, and he’s intense.  But I think it’s them TOGETHER, not apart.  It’s a hard realization because I love both of my kids so much, and yet I feel at odds with them most of the time, just trying to live life (feed, change, bathe, bed, repeat, repeat, repeat).  My children get plenty of attention so I’m not holding this heavy bag of guilt about that, but I do feel like they both deserve a little more one on one time.  But where to find the time?  Does anyone have some time I can borrow? ;)

I can’t imagine life without either one of them – especially when they are together.

Cool shopping find: Has everyone heard of Etsy?  It’s such a cool place to find handmade stuff for every occasion.  I buy lots of hats, blankets, and props on Etsy.  And, if you’re looking for fun birthday party theme ideas, JACKPOT!!!

Here’s a great snapshot of hand-picked Easter Gifts

This was the Vintage Plane Collection that I wanted to use for Jake’s Birthday, but of course I waited until the week before to try and order.  The seller, Mary Had a Little Party, has such adorable kid party stuff!  These images are from the etsy website – not mine. ;)

And look at this adorable wall design from Pink N Blue Baby!

Be careful though – it’s very distracting!  I just spent more than 30 minutes looking around while writing this blog post!

Happy Monday!!!

Monday Love

Another edition of Monday Love…

A Quote: Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what happened. ~Jennifer Yane

Something Personal: Awesome, awesome, awesome!  That’s how I would describe the last few days.  Thursday was Kylie’s 5th birthday and we basically celebrated all weekend.  Not with big stuff, but just being together, as a family, without letting work distract us.  Now that Kylie is a little older, I really wanted to make her birthday special.  My mom always made me feel so special on my birthday so I’m hoping to pass down that fun tradition.

Here is my sweet 5 year old….

It started Thursday morning when Kylie woke up and thought it was Easter because she saw a balloon downstairs (apparently she forgot it was her birthday).  She got to open her first present, sent from Nana, the princess dolls she’s been asking for since Christmas.  Jeff and I met at Kylie’s school and brought marshmallows for dipping, with chocolate and sprinkles — it was a big hit!  We then went to lunch (just the three of us) at Chuck E Cheese and then Kylie and I went shopping for a party dress for Saturday (her Spa-Kidz birthday party).  She was very excited to see Grandpa and Grandma, since they drove up from Florida for her birthday this year.  Saturday was the big party — or should I say “little” party.  Kylie made the choice to do a “girly” party which meant she could only invite 6 girls.  This was the hardest part, because she didn’t want to leave anyone out.  Her other choice was the zoo, so she could invite ALL of her friends (and her “boyfriend” Ryan), but she decided the elephants are too smelly.  ???  We had a great princess party with glitter nails, glitter hair, and glitter face-painting – followed by a fashion show, dancing and singing.  Kylie surprised us all with a serenade of “Party in the USA” on the microphone SOLO!  I have no idea how she knows the words.  We finished off the weekend with a relaxing Sunday with some new birthday toys, a couple TV shows, a walk around the neighborhood, and all three meals freshly prepared at home!  Awesome, awesome, awesome…. like I said before!

Here’s a sampling of the last few days.  Please excuse the quality of the images – sometimes I like to take off my photog hat and just take snapshots.  This first one was around 7:15am…

Yes, I had to bring some banana too, a healthy choice, but nobody ate it!

Kylie taking down Daddy in a game of air-hockey at Chuck E Cheese!

Apparently a terrifying ride….

A visit from Grandpa.

The Divas after the fashion show!

And, since I always get a little sappy when my kids have a birthday, a little trip down memory lane.  Unfortunately, Kylie isn’t the only one that looks older since her first birthday.

Birthday #3

Birthday #5 – so grown up. XOXOXOXO  Love my Kylie Bear!

And I will finish with another favorite of Kylie in her birthday dress…

AND…… if you have stayed with me this far…..SURPRISE!!!  I am celebrating Kylie’s 5th birthday by giving away FIVE gift cards for itunes in the amount of $15 each.  All you have to do is leave a comment on my facebook page ( and you will be entered to win.  AND, if you “share” this blog post on your own facebook page, leave another comment telling me you did so, and you get an EXTRA entry!!).  Who doesn’t need a little extra music in their lives???   Winners will be drawn on Friday, April 1st (my friend Jen’s birthday)!

Happy Monday!!!
