Monday Love / Fleeting Moments

Another edition of Monday Love…

A quote: Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again. -Henri Cartier-Bresson

Something personal: This quote put into words a feeling that I have always had as a photographer, but never really thought much about.  It’s that perfect moment I see through the lens of my camera, so beautiful, so perfect, and yet so fleeting. In an instant it is gone.  Capturing that “perfect” moment is the ultimate goal and it is such a rush when I know that I got the shot, and also such a disappointment when I know that I missed it.  Of course “perfect” can mean VERY different things to different people.  Last weekend my kids were playing with one of the trees in our driveway when Jake said “take a picture of meeeeeeee Mommy!”  Since Jake NEVER wants me to take his picture, I literally RAN inside to get my camera and oblige his wish.  So, I thought I would share a few of these pictures (from my 10 minute impromptu photo session) even though they aren’t perfect.  Seriously, I would have never chosen plaid shorts with a graphic monster shirt for a photo session, althouth it does suit my Jakester pretty well!

And while I could tell you all the things that are wrong with this picture from a technical perspective, it’s perfect in every way from a personal perspective.  My Kylie Bear in her ruffled skirt with her short hair (because she recently took a pair of scissors to it).  Jake, who I think is a baby, looking HUGE on Kylie’s lap because he’s growing so fast.  His new shoes that we bought after finding out his old ones were 1 1/2 sizes too small.  The two of them together just makes my heart melt.  A perfect picture to me.

Something yummy: I posted about the Black Bean Brownie recipe a few weeks back, and I really wanted to try them out.  I have never been much for sneaking veggies into food that my kids eat, but I thought it would be good to “sneak” some extra protein and fiber in something they consider a treat.  I had my doubts about whether these would go over well, but both of my kids loved them!  Jeff even liked them until I told him the secret ingredient, then he didn’t touch them again — mental block I guess.  ;)

They looked dry when I took them out of the over, but they were actually very dense and fudge-like inside.

And of course, the true test……will my kids actually eat them??   YEP!

HAPPY MONDAY!!!!!
