siblings | atlanta family photography

I absolutely loved watching these two interact.  As any mother knows, when you find out that other kids act exactly like your own, it just makes you feel more normal.  Preston is 4 and Charlotte is almost 2 – and they interact just like Kylie and Jake.  They both want to do exactly what the other one is doing (because they adore each other) but they act like the other one is soooooo annoying – especially if they’re TOUCHING!  Ahhh, sibling rivalry!  Mom and I enjoyed the scene and had some laughs.  I was sad to hear that they will soon be moving to Charlotte…..  but at least I got to meet them before they go!

Just look at his eyes – so kind and sweet.  He was smiling the WHOLE time – it makes you want to smile back doesn’t it?

So typical right?  Preston sitting on Charlotte in the chair — because they both wanted to be on the chair RIGHT NOW!  ;)

Sweet Charlotte – I had to put a little vintage effect on this image.  Gorgeous!

another view on parent portraits | atlanta family photography

I love this article written by Josee Caza titled “The Importance of Parent Portraits” on the NAPCP website.  I completely agree with her thoughts and sentiments.  The two pictures she posted of her Mom brought tears to my eyes – as they made me think of my mom and the handful of pictures that I have of her (less than 5).  I have two pictures of my dad and a few of my grandma – and that’s it.  Some pictures were lost or damaged and some were just never taken at all.  There is one picture (lost) that is etched into my brain; it’s of my mom (a total hippy back then) carrying me in a backpack and standing next to her weimareiner.  She’s looking back at the camera and I’m facing the camera (probably about 8 months old).  It tugs at my heart because it tells the story of a life that I don’t remember.  A young mother living on very little but doing her best for me, her baby girl.  I must have looked at it a million times growing up and I WISH I still had it to treasure forever.  Of course, I do have one of those “posed” portrait studio images that really doesn’t speak to me at all – why didn’t that one get lost?  :)   So please, take her advice and remember to save those special captured moments for your children.

Here are a couple scanned pictures that I still have…. My grandma and I (1983) and my mom and I (probably around 1979).  The emotion I feel from these pictures is overwhelming.  I remember my grandma would always look at ME for pictures and never at the camera (I felt like she was ALWAYS looking at me) and that ridiculous outfit with the wrap-around shorts and belly exposed – I was so embarrassed to wear it!  It’s ironic that the picture of my mom and I was also taken at my Grandma’s house (considering she lived 12 hours away and we saw her once every year or two).  Her house was the COOLEST place with lots of great food and her doll collection (that I was never allowed to touch).  Ahhhh, the memories.

a relaxing session | atlanta family photography

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph ADULTS for this session.  Mom does formal large portraits of them about every 10 years – so I feel even more honored that she chose me to capture her beautiful children (although, they aren’t REALLY children anymore).

I’m sure Wes won’t mind if I tell you he was pretty grumpy about the whole “taking pictures” situation, but I think by the end he *might* even say that he had a good time????  He was very sweet and little sister (by 7 years) was also a delight.  They did whatever I asked (unlike the little ones that I am usually chasing around) so it was a very relaxing time for me!

Here’s a few sneak peak images.  A couple portraits (because mom will want to see these) and a few that I just fell in love with because they captured the undeniable, slightly silly, sibling relationship these two have – even as adults.

Can you see it?  ”OH MAN – she’s HUGGING me!”

Some old fashioned effect on this one — timeless.

And a quick storyboard to make you smile.  I know it’s a bit small – but still cute!

mine | atlanta family photography

Sometimes I just can’t believe they are…. MINE!  Without going into a monologue about my life story, let it suffice to say that I’m still in awe that I have a FAMILY of four – including two kids of my own!   So, it’s been a while since I have posted anything personal and I just had to share.

We were spending the final day of spring break at Aunt Laurie’s house (which is about 40 minutes away) so I packed up some dress-up stuff and asked Kylie if she would want to take pictures in the “field” by Aunt Laurie’s house.  I say “field” but it’s really an empty lot (where a house should be built) and there are lots of really tall weeds plants.  Kylie gave me the obligatory “sure” and I was hoping for the best.  It’s a rare day that I can spend some time taking pictures of my kids with the BEAST Canon 5D MarkII and I really enjoyed it.  Kylie was totally ‘into it’ and I captured some beautiful images of my sweet Kylie Bear.

The pout!  Couldn’t decide if I like the full color version or the vintage.  Thoughts on this?

And although he’s not as graceful, with his buddha belly, bruised head, and messy hands; I think my Jakester is the most handsome little man around (next to his Daddy).  He has a rope wrapped around my heart for sure.

cuddly boy | atlanta family photography

This handsome fella just melted my heart.  When mom & dad walked up to meet me he reached out for me and gave me a cuddle.  I could just EAT HIM UP!  ;)   Jake (my *little* guy) hardly ever wants to cuddle – even when he was a baby he was WAY more interested in checking out the world.  So, me and Mr. “A” got to bond with lots of hugs and cuddles at the park.

Love those two bottom teeth….

I never get tired of the “sandwich kiss” shot.  ;)
